What the council actually controls
City councilors vote on the contracts and budgets that pay for automated license-plate readers, and they can attach conditions: retention limits, audit requirements, disclosure of camera locations, and rules on which outside agencies may search Tulsa data. The Frontier reported the city pays more than $696,000 a year for its Flock system while declining to release camera locations. Nearby Coweta moved to remove its cameras in August 2026.
- Should Tulsa renew or expand its Flock Safety contract, and what should it cost?
- Should camera locations, retention periods and search logs be public by default?
- Who outside Tulsa police can search Tulsa plate data, and under what written policy?
- Should the council require an annual public audit of every ALPR search?
- What happens to the data when a resident is never charged with anything?
Useful questions to ask any candidate, at a forum or on a doorstep.
